Rick Santorum 2012 Page Goes Up On Facebook

With his recent comments to a Pittsburgh TV station making his Presidential aspirations official, fans of the former Pennsylvania Senator have put up a Rick Santorum 2012 page on social network giant Facebook

Although not an official product of the Santorum campaign the page should prove comforting to the former Senator who had a dismal showing in a recent poll in Iowa of potential GOP candidates. Lesser known that some GOP hopefuls, the newly minted Facebook page may help get his name out to a national audience.

Democrats have historically been the political leaders in using technology to get out their message and have reached a younger audience because of it. This has driven their grass roots efforts and has made getting the message out to a broad audience very quickly, an easier task than Republicans have found it in recent elections. However, with the booming popularity of social networking sites such as Facebook and Twitter, the GOP candidates have embraced the technology and may no longer be behind in the race for the mass media message.

Santorum is the first to officially kick off a campaign for 2012 and his fans followed suit with a 2012 Facebook page. Will it have an effect on the Former Senator’s bid for the White House? It certainly can’t hurt. In an era of soundbites and Twitter feeds, getting your name out using social networking is going to become a staple of anyone’s run for office. This time it looks like the Republican’s will be leading instead of following.
