Huckabee Under Fire For “Infidel” Comment

Former Arkansas Governor and potential 2012 GOP presidential candidate Mike Huckabee is coming under fire from Muslim civil rights groups for comments he made during a recent “Fox and Friends” interview. In the interview Huckabee stated that he did not understand why Christian churches would allow Muslims to use their worship space.

“If the purpose of a church is to push forth the gospel of Jesus Christ, and then you have a Muslim group that says that Jesus Christ and all the people that follow him are a bunch of infidels who should be essentially obliterated, I guess I have a hard time understanding that.” said Huckabee. “Is there a reason to say that the people who donated, who gave, who sacrificed to give that facility really ever intended it to be a place where something that is the antithesis of the gospel of Christ would be presented?” he added.

Those comments did not sit well with the Council On American-Islamic Relations, a controversial Muslim civil rights group, who called the comments ‘divisive’ and requested that the former Governor meet with Muslim leaders to become educated about misconceptions about their religion.

“On this Presidents’ Day, we ask Mike Huckabee — a person who may again seek the highest office in the land — to live up to the principles of tolerance and interfaith respect that make our nation great,” Nihad Awad, the national executive director of CAIR, said in a statement. “We urge Mr. Huckabee to do some research and to apologize for his inaccurate and offensive remarks.”

One thing is for certain, Mike Huckabee won’t be getting the terrorist vote.
